Context & Inspiration

In junior high and high school, Mel Gray encouraged me to design posters and greeting cards, and Jack Green hired me to design an identity for his new photography business. Most of my early "graphic design" was confrontational, for example my poster of a dead fish reminding people not to dump trash in the river.

The posters I designed much later for Terra Incognita made use of vernacular landscape imagery and native artifacts, and as I got more into native rock art, I began to work consciously with signs and symbols as visual cues.

I'm proud of some of the graphic design I've done, but I'm not a "graphic designer" by any means, and I bow in awe to the brilliant professionals I've known and worked with.
