Context & Inspiration My designs in interactive media have been seen and used by far more people than all my other creative work combined. When I became aware of interactive media in 1993, it seemed the answer to a lifelong dilemma, a way to merge my previously divergent work in the arts and technology. I had worked with computers since 1968, so the technology itself was not a barrier. I gained a broad understanding of digital media production in an educational CD-ROM startup company, then Friend Wells asked me to lead the interactive arm of his Desert Music Pictures, and I spent some time developing concepts for entertainment CD-ROMs, most notably a companion to George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead". I also met Peter Lunenfeld at Art Center College of Design and attended his Digital Dialectic conference and mediawork series. Peter's events, and the people who participated, really got me excited about the potential of "new media". Peter was interested in virtually everything, but only if you looked at it in a new way. |
