Interactive Art

1997

For the poem on the left, I took "pictograms" from my pastel drawings, scanned and animated them using Macromedia Director. Then, I made lines of one of my favorite poems appear whenever you click on a pictogram.

The pictograms are like microorganisms, which goes well with the imagery of the poem. And you can read it at your own pace.

The carousel, on the right, was a tough one, and I haven't seen anything like it since. I used calculus to create the algorithm you use to control the spinning of the carousel, and I wanted you to be able to see the whole carousel, including the opposite side in reverse.

Something cool that I didn't plan is that when you click on a foreground pictogram to stop the carousel, the pictograms stack up in a different order every time, forming what looks like a tattoo.
