			Mimbres Valley Harvest Festival Agriculture in the Valley goes back 2,000 years. Some of world's most unique and beautiful ceramics were created by farmers of the prehistoric Mimbres culture. The Valley was the "bread basket of Southwest New Mexico" until after World War 2. Today's global consumer economy subsidizes the importation of food from other states and countries to supermarkets owned by large chains. Residents of this rural valley must now drive to the city for most of their shopping. But the Mimbres Valley still produces food. Newcomers as well as descendants of the original settlers raise beef cattle and other livestock, tend orchards, and grow a variety of seasonal crops. I've been working with a wonderful group of residents to promote local agriculture. The day of our festival started with heavy rain. Valley families began arriving even before we opened, and they kept coming all day long. The San Lorenzo Elementary School gave us shelter. Vendors, volunteers, and performers kept things going. All generations celebrated on the dance floor of the Roundup Lodge in the evening. Go to festival site....
