Bohemian Liaisons

1979-present

Beginning at CalArts, Mark Norris and I worked together in a bunch of different formats, mostly inspired by the punk and post-punk genres. Poetry Attack was our singing and songwriting team during our most prolific period of songwriting. Mark joined me and Jon Spayde for the first Terra Incognita show and subsequent TI visits to CalArts. Our Camp was a loose conglomeration of CalArts students who met sporadically over a period of years, jamming in galleries and classrooms. The Didactyl Brothers kept playing music long after they stopped making art together, carrying their irreverence to its logical extreme by making violent, retarded music almost no one can tolerate.

When I met Katie Rauh in 1984, we formed a songwriting duo called Roundhouse. Our wistful, childlike compositions had affinities to Young Marble Giants and the Penguin Cafe Orchestra.
