Wickiup

1993-1995

We described ourselves as Native American Country Gospel, or sometimes as Acid Country (a reaction to the term "acid jazz"). But many of my original tunes were inspired by the phrasings and vocalizations of the Apala music of Nigeria's Yoruba people. I brought that unique sound, implemented with banjo and Yoruba drums, into the mix with Jane's native songs and my ancestral hillbilly hymns and hollers.

A wickiup is the traditional brush shelter of the Southern Paiute people who live in the Mojave desert.
