Narrative Work 1978-1980 After breaking free of the figure and color studies, I suddenly began telling stories with my pictures. And whereas before, I had needed a live subject or a photograph to work from, now I found I could easily work from memory or imagination. That's what I'd done at the very beginning, in early childhood, before learning about the art world and the myth of the heroic artist. Now I had the ability to make convincing, adult works, while telling stories and communicating feelings like a child. A lot of these pieces ended up with my friends. |
