Portraits 1970-1976 The portrait was one of my earliest genres. It's natural: as animals, the face is what we notice first. I used portraits to study expressions and to memorialize my friends and family, and to show how I felt about myself. The portrait is, universally, a fetish: a spiritual artifact, the centerpiece of the shrine, reinforcing our connection with family and community. |
