Context & Inspiration 1986-present In a logical progression from our culture-making experiments in the early Terra Incognita band and the Music & Prophecy cabaret series, Jon Spayde and I started putting together a community-culture newsletter. As we got deeper into it, we realized it would be more appropriate just to summon the community together for a pow-wow, and document the results. Thus was launched the Terra Incognita Pow-Wows, a series of conference retreats which are described in more detail elsewhere. To make the books (two of which haven't been published yet), tape recordings of field trips and talks were laboriously transcribed and edited along with art work and photographs. My favorite aspect of this is the vibrant representation of oral culture in a group with incredibly deep education and experience. |
