Context & Inspiration

In a community where stories are alive, they live in the space around and between the people, which I call story-space. The storyteller is the interpretive voice, summoning stories from the collective memory and telling them uniquely, never the same way twice.

So many themes come together in this way! Wittgenstein's "games of exploring the world" and Onitsha's market pamphlets reflect a dialog between ordinary people whose narratives are the proto-phenomena of cognition and culture. Korzybski's wacky Structural Differential and Tom Hackett's sand painting show how the hidden life and structure of the world can be explored collaboratively in a performance event integrating storytelling and image-making.
