Native Pottery of the Mojave Desert

Encouraged by his grandmother, and inspired by prehistoric artifacts he found while exploring the desert, Tony Soares of Joshua Tree pursued and mastered the lost art of native pottery-making. He gathers, grinds, and mixes his own clays, builds the pots in the traditional way, and decorates them with traditional motifs.

Ollas just like this were used for thousands of years to store food and water. Today, native people buy Tony's pots as gifts for family members and visiting dignitaries.
