Toward a Positive Legacy Asked by venture capitalists to groom promising young businesses for long-term success, I turned to the symbolic pictures I've been exploring during the past two years. Like Alfred Korzybski with his Structural Differential, I use these visual models in a collaborative process I call "Discovery", asking leading questions, getting people to tell their stories, and drawing pictures that illustrate the stories and allow us to discover connections and interdependencies. Business people love it - it helps them understand what they're trying to do, what their issues are, and how to resolve them. By showing a business in its larger environment, and visualizing the accompanying cycles and progressions, we can investigate and address the social and ecological implications of the business toward a goal of enhancing the quality of life and achieving a positive legacy.
