Shared Beliefs

Our knowledge includes what we've experienced or learned firsthand, plus what we've heard, overheard, or read about.

Our knowledge may be shared, or it may be private, or even held in secret.

We may or may not understand it.

We may or may not even believe it. When we say we believe something, it means we feel that it accurately describes reality: the way things are, the way they work.

What we believe influences our behavior, especially when we're acting alone. But the behavior of a group of people always depends on their shared beliefs: the knowledge that they all believe in. Whether they understand it or not; whether they've learned it firsthand or not.
